The season started in August 2013 and ended with the Provincial Finals in Estevan May 29-June 1, 2014.
Paige was named Provincial Champion in three events – Pole bending, Breakaway Roping and Goat Tying. She was the only multiple winner at the provincial championships.
Paige also placed 5th in Barrel Racing, Ribbon Roping and Team Roping. By placing in these events she qualified to go to Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa. She also qualified for the Canadian Nationals in Nanton,, Alta., set to take place at the end of July.
Paige said she couldn’t have had the success she’s had without her team mates – Reba, Chuck and Turner. “Reba has been with me since I started SHSRA and helped me win the Canadian Pole Bending Championship in 2013. Chuck is my roping and goat tying horse and Turner is my barrel horse that I’ve been training this past year. Of course without the help and support of my parents this wouldn’t be possible at all.”
Her parents couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments, of where she is and where she is going. They have seen the hard work Paige puts into training and keeping her horses in shape for each competition. She has a lot of passion and drive for the rodeo sport.
The Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Association, a non-profit organization, consists of kids from grade 6 to 8 in the Junior High division and grades 9 to 12 in the High School division. Contestants do not compete for money but for points. The points then make them eligible to compete at Provincial Finals and Nationals. Contestants are then able to compete for and attain College Scholarships. Success in this sport is based on the dedication, commitment and sportsmanship that is developed and not necessarily winning the event.
The SHSRA mission statement is – To create a positive environment for members to grow and further their education.
