Breast of times for local fundraiser

The 5th Annual Dessert Gala was held by Victoria’s Quilts Canada – Climax Branch on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Climax Hall. 

It was another huge success bringing in over $6,000 through ticket sales, silent auction, raffles and games.  These funds will go to buying more quilting supplies and to the distribution of quilts free of charge to cancer patients throughout Saskatchewan. Ticket sales were brisk, selling out within two hours of going on sale.                There were many items donated for Silent Auction, Raffles and Door Prizes.  Rosalee Jarman was the MC for the evening. A few games were played including “Do you have one of these in your purse?” and “Heads and Tails”.

Anne Reynolds and Val Helgason of the Breast of Friends drove from Foam Lake to contribute to the evening.  Anne did a presentation talking about their journey with the “Breast of Friends” cookbooks, sharing stories of their successes and the donations they have made. The two ladies sold their cookbooks and made a donation to Victoria’s Quilts from the proceeds.

Desserts were prepared by the Claydon Ladies who used recipes from the Breast of Friends cookbooks.

Through the support of people province-wide the local branch is looking forward to being able to continue providing the comfort of a quilt to cancer patients throughout the province.

Victoria’s Quilts Canada is a non-profit charitable organization with a mission to provide a comfort quilt, free of charge, to cancer patients in Canada.

These quilts provide both physical and spiritual comfort during their struggle.

Since it was established in April of 2010, the Climax volunteer group – one of only two branches of Victoria’s Quilts Canada in Saskatchewan – has shipped over 750 quilts to appreciative recipients.

The local project is run by a small team of dedicated volunteers who help administer the program and ship out the quilts. The group enjoys support from a variety of other volunteers who donate supplies and help make quilts.
