The “Pride of Shaunavon,” the Hunter Brothers, took to the Family Feud Canada stage in February. They not only brought local pride but also Saskatchewan pride to the event. The Hunter Brothers made their final appearance on night three (Thursday), as contestants are limited to three episodes. In fact, the Hunters’ winning streak on Family Feud Canada came to an end that same night. The Shaunavon brothers were shut out by Port Dover, Ontario’s Azzopardi family, who claimed the $10,000 prize.

Initially, the Hunter Brothers won $10,000 on their Family Feud Canada debut. They fashioned a dramatic last-minute comeback, with Dusty Hunter pulling off the game-saving answer. Host Gerry Dee asked, “Name something silly to draw on a person’s face?” Dusty kept them alive with the answer “moustache.”

In the Fast Money round, Ty scored 134 points in the first round. J.J.

was sitting at 182 points and nailed down the final 22 points with a movie theatre response to seal the win.

The next night, Dusty saved their bacon again by answering a hockey question in sudden death. The question was, “Name something pertaining to hockey starting with the letter P?” Dusty replied, “puck,” which propelled them into the Fast Money round. Their second win was a country music star showdown with Brett Kissel.

In my view, it would be challenging to answer the questions under the bright lights and television cameras. There is little time to think, so it is the first answer that pops into your head. You can also throw in the nerves of being on national television.

Ty and J.J. teamed up a couple of times in the Fast Money round. It is difficult because you only have 20 seconds to answer five questions in the opening round. The second round, with 25 seconds, is tougher because the more obvious answers are already taken.

Badgers scorekeeper and public address announcer Derek Tremere made a classic scoring announcement in the Cabri Bulldogs series. Derek said, “Badgers goal scored by number 18, J.J. (Family Feud Canada) Hunter.”

J.J. came up with some excellent answers, like “dalmatian” in response to the spotted animal question. Ty had already said “leopard” in the first round of Fast Money. When asked, “What liquid is measured in litres?” J.J. answered “apple juice.” Ty said “water,” but the number one answer was “milk.” Host Gerry joked that he was not confident in J.J.’s apple juice answer.

Ty said online, “I don’t know if I’m looking forward to people seeing it or not. It depends on what the edit is.” Ty shared a Family Feud Canada song parody on the show. A video of their grand piano stunt was also featured on the program.

They highlighted their roots – piano lessons from mom Norma, hockey from dad Lorne, and today, farming grain around Shaunavon, plus successful stints in music and hockey. Their uncle, “Jungle Jim” Hunter, is a former Canadian Olympic skier.
