Trivia question: what do monkeys, parrots, a jungle tribesman, exploding streamers, and bagpipes all have in common?
Answer: they were all part of The Stayin’ Alive Not Expired Choir’s 11th Annual concert held Friday, October 24, at The Bridge in Shaunavon.
The singing group and their accompanying 6-piece rock band put on a performance that highlighted everything that this group has come to be known for: Seniors behaving in ways that one just wouldn’t expect, melodious 3-part harmonies (taught by co-director Norma Hunter), dancing, costumes, props, live music in a dozen different genres, and a selection of songs that had the nearly sold-out audience singing, dancing, clapping, and laughing right along with the performers.
“We had a marvelous time putting together and performing this year’s program,” Dianne Greenlay, the Choir’s founder, said. “Even though we had to make a few last-minute adjustments to the program due to a couple of unexpected member health issues, everything went off without a hitch.”
Rock Solid students also took part in the program and filled in the theatrical roles for the concert’s “Security” detail.
New to this year, we made some of our tickets available for purchase at the door, which was convenient for those who were still involved in this year’s late harvest the working hours for which have been extending into several evenings. With purchase available at the door, many found themselves able to attend at the last moment.
“I am so grateful for the support of the public towards our annual concerts and the enormous positive feedback has been very motivational. We’re already formulating a few ideas for next year’s performance.”
“Anyone who might be interested in joining the Choir is encouraged to contact me at 306-297-7932,” she added. “No one needs any musical training, but choir members must be at least 55 to join, and have an immense capacity to have fun.”
The choir will be taking a Christmas season break until early February, when they will resume practices.
