
Badgers keep unbeaten record intact with holiday wins

The Badger Express continues to chug down the railway tracks in the Whitemud Hockey League. The Shaunavon Badgers posted two victories over the Christmas holidays to run their record to 9-0.
The Badgers registered an 11-2 triumph over the Frontier Flyers on Dec.
27 before an excellent crowd at the VWC. The scores at the period intervals were 5-0 and 8-0.
Badgers’ captain Dyson Stevenson ignited the attack with three goals and three assists. Forward J.J. Hunter potted two goals and two assists.
Tanner Tetrault chipped in two goals and one assist while Tanner Kendall blinked the red light twice. Dale Hunt scored a shorthanded tally and added an assist. Treysen Tetrault also deposited the biscuit behind Flyers’ keeper Kaden Poppy.
D-men Corey Bailey and Kain Stevenson led the assist parade with three helpers apiece. Tyson Goffinet collected two assists with single helpers credited to Rhett Franklin, Ryan Palaniuk and Kyle Goffinet.
Jesse Arendt and Cade Lewans ruined Cole Cadieux’s shutout bid with goals in the final frame. Tripp McLeod, Tyson Norheim and Cooper Jensen chipped in assists for the Flyers.
The two clubs combined for 20 penalty minutes. The evening was dubbed Rocky Mountain Equipment Appreciation Night with six contestants shooting to win a tractor. 50/50 proceeds were dontated to Gordon Brown who is battling a serious health issue.
The Badgers knocked off their Highway 37 rival Gull Lake Greyhounds 12-2 in their annual Xmas game on Dec.20. The contest followed a Christmas theme with a Teddy Bear Toss, Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest and Skate with Santa and Badgers after the game. A side note Gordon Brown played the role of the Grinch in the Ugly Sweater Contest.
Dyson Stevenson fired two goals and four assists for the home side. J.J.
Hunter and Tanner Tetrault each netted two goals and one assist. Dale Hunt dented twine twice with Greg Coburn (power play), Luke Hunter and Kain Stevenson adding solo markers.
Assists were credited to Luke Hunter (three), Tyson Goffinet (two), Greg Coburn (two), Adam Peterson (two) and Derek Thomas (two). Ryan Palaniuk and Tanner Kendall had singles.
Cody Spagrud beat Badgers’ tender Janson Davidson on the power play at
17:33 of the opening period. Dylan Gedny scored with six seconds left on the clock for the visitors.
Brett Stusrud picked up a pair of assists for the Greyhounds.
Greyhounds’ goalie Brad Nyen stopped a barrage of rubber in the first two periods with relief help from Evan Kobley in the third.
There were 16 penalty minutes in the tame contest.
Trytten Carleton of the Frontier district took home a cool $1,760 in the
50/50 draw.
