The Shaunavon Badgers secured their place in the provincial Senior “C”

final with a convincing 7-1 win over the Craik Warriors.

The victory, which took place in Craik on March 3, gave the Badgers a sweep in their best of three series against the Warriors. The Badgers opened the series with a 7-2 win at the Veren Wickenheiser Centre on March 1.

Tuesday’s game in Craik followed a similar script to game one, with the Badgers jumping out to a quick lead, this time taking a 4-0 advantage after just 20 minutes of play.

Luke Hunter scored once and added a trio of assists to lead the offensive charge while Dyson Stevenson scored once and added a pair of helpers. J.J. Hunter and Tyler Logan contributed a goal and an assist each. The Badgers also got tallies from Adam Peterson, Tanner Kendall, and Treyson Tetrault. Kain Stevenson had a pair of assists with single helpers going to Tyson Goffinet and Tanner Tetrault.

Cole Cadieux earned the win in net for the Badgers.

Shaunavon held period leads of 4-0 and 6-0.

Jonathan Reich scored Craik’s only goal. He scored all three goals for the Warriors in the series.

The Badgers will now face the Rosetown Redwings in the provincial final.

It is the first time the Badgers have been in a provincial final since

2013 when the team claimed the Senior B title. Shaunavon beat the Esterhazy Flyers 7-6 in an overtime thriller to win the championship on home ice, which remains the first and only senior provincial title for the team.

Three members of the current Badgers roster – Luke Hunter, J.J. Hunter and Tanner Tetrault – were members of that 2013 team. Another current player, Corey Bailey, was the stick boy for that squad.

J.J. and Luke were also picked up by the Eastend Jets for their provincial “D” championship run in 2008. In fact, J.J. scored the overtime winner in the clinching game of that final series against Davidson.
