Opportunities on display

Opportunities Showcase, a trade-show style event that featured the participation of a number of businesses and organizations, was able to proceed despite a significant overnight and early morning snow storm that hit the community on Thursday (April 16).

“The weather kept so many awesome speakers and exhibitors away, which was disappointing for all, although they are already signing on for the next one,” said Mary Scott of Shaunavon Economic Development and Innovation. “In spite of it all, we still had an excellent turnout.  The showcase offered an opportunity to share ideas, a chance to learn, a space to collaborate and innovate and a space to connect.”

The full day gathering, organized by Shaunavon Economic Development and Innovation as well as the Town of Shaunavon, featured numerous booth displays and informative presentations. Local and regional employers, non-profits, service clubs, and community organizations were on hand to showcase everything from job openings and volunteer roles to services, memberships, and community initiatives. Booths ranged from Canada Border Services and Southwest Sask Tourism & Investment Attractions Hub, to the Food Bank and Library. A group of students from the Shaunavon Public School also displayed their work as part of a heritage project and Age Friendly Shaunavon organized a Wills and Estate Planning  presentation.

Scott said the feedback from attendees was encouraging with comments noting that the event helped organizations gain visibility, introduced people to opportunities they weren’t previously aware of, and provided valuable resources to support individuals across the region. Attendees also said it opened doors to new possibilities and was an inspiring experience overall.

“Special thanks to all of our presenters and exhibitors who made it out,” commented Scott. “It proved to provide a rich awareness of what our rural community has to offer for incredible jobs, resources, programs, businesses and clubs.”
