Christ the King Church Hall was buzzing with activity last week as the Shaunavon Catholic Women’s League (CWL) hosted its annual Fall Rummage Sale.
Held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and Thursday, Oct. 22, the event drew large crowds of bargain hunters eager to browse a hall packed with donated items.
The program fills a nice local need, offering residents an affordable way to acquire high-quality goods, with most items priced at just $1.
For donors, the sale provides an alternative to simply throwing things out, ensuring gently used goods find a second home.
The event’s success relies heavily on behind-the-scenes teamwork. In the days leading up to the sale, CWL volunteers worked to organize and categorize piles of donated goods across the hall’s tables.
CWL member Tana Audette credited this volunteer spirit as the backbone of the program, and compared the shopping experience to finding hidden treasures at a major retail outlet. Hundreds of area residents take part in the annual event, which also includes a Spring Sale version as well.
The impact of the event also extends beyond the two-day sale. This year, donations of baby and young boys’ clothes were sent to the Salvation Army to help fill a need that had been identified by their officials.
The remaining leftover items were picked up by a Ponteix resident who has worked with the local CWL for the past few years to distribute clothing to families.
All proceeds raised from the tables are put back into community projects by the CWL, supporting local initiatives such as youth programs and programs at the Shaunavon Long-Term Care Centre.
