Canada Day celebration draws large crowd Mother Nature has produced some unusually rainy conditions this spring and summer, but co-operated in a big way for the annual Canada Day celebrations at the Grand Coteau Centre. The event drew a large crowd and warm, sunny conditions on Wednesday as people enjoyed the outdoor setting and relaxed atmosphere. Visitors were treated to a pancake brunch, including Ranch House Meat sausages, with proceeds from the event going towards the Centre’s youth programming. About 250 meals were served and $1,600 in cash donations were collected during the brunch.
Grand Coteau Centre Director Joanne Gregoire credited the event’s success to strong local support and the cooperative weather. She thanked sponsors, volunteers and attendees for their participation and involvement.
“We were grateful for the weather,” Gregoire said. “Everything ran pretty smoothly. We have an amazing group of volunteers. They’re a hardworking crew. Most of them have done this before, so they know the routine and what needs to get done.”
The local Canada Day celebrations also featured free public swimming at the pool for the day, and Canada Day cupcakes were served in the afternoon.
