The Me Time Shaunavon Amazing Race competition was so popular this year that organizers added extra stations to accommodate the surge of teams.

Nine teams totaling 34 participants – up from 20 players last year – took part in the unique event. Competitors raced through a series of pit stops across the local museum and library, accumulating points on each leg of the course.

The “Lots of Many Good Laughs” team – comprised of Lorraine Oberle, Gail Wallis, Marlene Amon, and Lisa Schmit – won the competition with 311 points.

The team’s name was created from the first letter of each member’s first name. The second-place team, The Imports, finished second with 292.5 points.

Participants faced tricky challenges that ranged from solving puzzles and churning butter to playing cornhole and searching through old phone books.

“It was a good variety of activities that tested skills and memory,”

said Grand Coteau Centre director Joanne Gregoire. “It was a record turnout for our Amazing Race night, but we were able to keep everyone rotating through each station at a steady pace. With that many teams, we had to use every available space in the building.”

The event took place on the evening of Wednesday, June 3.

Along with the 34 players, a dedicated group of volunteers and staff from Shaunavon Wellness & Leisure and the Grand Coteau Centre – including summer students – helped the evening run smoothly.

The event capped off a busy period for the Grand Coteau Centre, which also hosted local school classes for similar challenges over the previous two weeks.
